Lehighton Ford, Bo Tkach Foundation team up to donate 150 meals

A total of 150 families in need will be able to gather around the table to enjoy their Christmas meals complete with all the trimmings.

Lehighton Ford and the Bo Tkach Under the Helmet and Hat Foundation teamed together to give away food to nonprofit organizations to give to families that are struggling.

Adam Brobst, general manager of Lehighton Ford, said on Tuesday that after a two-year hiatus because of to COVID-19, it was decided to start the program back up.

“We’re giving out as much as we can to people (in need) of the community,” Brobst said. “We want to be that beacon of light for the community.”

Brobst said there was about 4,500 pounds of food given out that was purchased from Country Harvest Family Market in Palmerton.

He also thanked PenTeleData, the Bo Tkach Under the Helmet and Hat Foundation, and Kristy Horwith, a former employee at Lehighton Ford who volunteered her time to help coordinate the program.

Horwith said that this year marked the 20th year for the program, which was last held in 2019.

She said a total of 150 meals would be given out, and that each family would receive a 15-pound turkey, 5-pound bag of potatoes, two cans of corn, two cans of peas, a can of cranberry sauce, two cans of gravy and an apple pie.

Horwith thanked the 15 churches from Lehighton and Palmerton, each of which received 10 meals to distribute for orchestrating things.

“It took six weeks to put this together,” Horwith said. “It’s a big blessing.”

Jaime Mendes, foundation board member and PenTeleData vice president of operations, said it’s great to partner together for such a worthy cause.

“We’re always glad to help,” Mendes said. “It’s a nice partnership.”

The foundation raises awareness of obsessive compulsive disorder and mental health issues; funds various youth programs for the betterment of children in the community; and provides scholarship awards to deserving students who possess the ideals that Bo Tkach possessed.
