Lehighton residents won’t have to pay more on their municipal taxes next year.
Borough council on a 6-0 vote at a special meeting on Monday adopted the 2023 budget with no tax increase.
That will leave the millage rate at 10 mills.
Councilman Darryl Arner was absent.
Before the vote, borough Manager Steve Travers noted the only addition to the budget from earlier this month was a change order in the amount of $17,129 that is owed to the water authority for the borough’s storm sewers.
That will change the amount from $10,000 to $27,129.
Earlier this month, council, on a 6-0 vote agreed to advertise the 2023 preliminary budget with no tax increase.
Travers said at that time the difference in revenue went up $307,000, while total expenditures went up $180,000.
Travers suggested that council look to move $200,000 from the borough’s Light & Power fund to the general fund, which he said would not effect the overall cost.
Councilwoman Lisa Perry said she was fine if they could make the budget work without the $200,000 transfer.
Councilman Ryan Saunders agreed and added he preferred to eliminate the $200,000 transfer.
Ultimately, council decided to advertise next year’s preliminary budget with no tax increase, along with no $200,000 transfer.
