Saylorsburg man faces multiple charges

A Saylorsburg man has been charged with assaulting his relatives and then threatening to assault state troopers.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Christopher Gaetano of the State Police at Fern Ridge barracks, in the case against Travis Trayes:

At 3:40 p.m. Nov. 24, Fern Ridge received multiple phone calls from a home on Fun Court, Chestnuthill Township, for a domestic dispute between Trayes, 23, and his uncle.

Upon arrival, Gaetano made contact with St. Luke’s EMS and the man who lived at the address, who was laying in rocks in the yard and was observed to be intoxicated.

The man said he and his family were attempting to fix an AC unit in a woman’s residence when he attempted to wake up Trayes, who became upset and punched him in the face multiple times.

The woman said she attempted to break up the fight, and Trayes punched her in the face and began to grab her arm/wrist area causing swelling by twisting it. Trayes then broke her glass door.

The man attempted to get away from Trayes, who followed him outside and again punched him multiple times in the face and shoved him to the ground, causing him to hit his head on rocks.

The man was in and out of consciousness until EMS arrived, and sustained lacerations to the face and head area and swelling to the facial and head area.

Trayes then fled the area in a 2017 white Volkswagen.

While on scene, state police received a report that a white Volkswagen had just driven into a nearby lake on Route 715.

Gaetano arrived on scene and observed Trayes standing next to the lake in wet clothes, and a white Volkswagen about 200 feet in the lake submerged in water.

Trayes admitted to drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, driving into the lake and engaging in a fight with the man.

Trayes was uncooperative, making threatening statements to Gaetano.

Gaetano and Cpl. Carmen Yurek attempted to conduct a breath test on Trayes, who was uncooperative.

Trayes refused a breath test.

Trayes attempted to bite Gaetano, kicking his legs at both Gaetano and Yurek.

Trayes urinated on the bench at the Fern Ridge barracks, causing damage to the floor and bench area.

All charges were approved by Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Michael Tomcho.

Trayes faces charges on four counts of simple assault, two counts each of aggravated assault and harassment, and count each of terroristic threats, DUI/unsafe driving, driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance, institutional vandalism, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, resisting arrest/other law enforcement, careless driving, reckless driving, and disregard traffic lane,

He is incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have his formal arraignment Jan. 25 before Judge Stephen M. Higgins of Stroudsburg.
