The new Tamaqua Area School District’s elementary center, to be built in the Yetten Circle area of Tamaqua, has an apparent price tag of $4.1-millions, according to bids opened last night by the school board.

The new school is the final of a three-phase program for the elementary grades of the school system. Work is well under way on the Hometown school or Rush Elementary School, where additions are being made. Construction at the West Penn Elementary School is expected to begin shortly.

The $4.1-million base bid is higher than what was anticipated. Don Williams, representing the architectural firm heading the project, said the original projection was about $3.5 million.
