The Panther Valley boys and girls both recorded wins on Saturday.

The boys crushed Catasauqua, while the girls downed East Stroudsburg North.

Palmerton also earned a win against Pocono Mountain East in boys action, while the Northwestern girls defeated Lehighton.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-PM East

A strong performance at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter helped Palmerton hold off Pocono Mountain East for a 58-49 non-league victory.

The Blue Bombers hit on 12-of-14 foul shots in the final period, including an 8-of-8 effort from Matt Machalik to remain undefeated this season.

Machalik finished with a team-high 18 points, while Brayden Hosier collected 16. Palmerton, now 4-0, also received 13 points from Kendall Robinson.

For the Cardinals, who slipped to 0-3, Sebastien Fermin tallied a game-high 20 points.

Catty-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley hit 14 three-pointers, including six by Drew Kokinda, to cruise to a 71-39 non-league victory over Catasauqua.

The Panthers collected seven of their treys, three from both Kokinda and Bradley Hood, in the opening quarter to build an 11-points advantage. The lead continued to grow as Kokinda, who finished with a game-high 20 points, drained two more from beyond the arc in the third frame to help boost the margin to 22.

Chase Weaver finished with 16 points for PV, who improved to a perfect 4-0. The winners also received 12 points from both Stephen Hood and Bradley Hood.

The Roughies (1-2) were led by Jeremiah Buasj Cofie’s eight points.

Marian-Blue Mountain

Carson Kerstetter scored 25 points and Blue Mountain hit enough free throws down the stretch to hold off Marian for a 57-52 non-league victory.

The Eagles recorded 13 of their 20 fourth-quarter points at the foul line to secure the win and stay undefeated at 4-0. The winners also received 12 points from Isaac Thomas.

Julius Currie poured in a team-high 21 points - including five three-pointers - for the Colts, who trailed by just one point heading into the final period. Chris Chambers and Frank Valente both finished with nine.

The loss dropped Marian to 1-2.

Jim Thorpe-Saucon Vy.

Saucon Valley used a strong second half to pull away from Jim Thorpe for a 59-34 non-league victory.

Thorpe’s Kaiden Herron scored 11 first-half points to keep his team within four points at the break, but the Panthers outscored the Olympians by a 35-14 margin over the final two quarters to gain the win.

Jack Robertson finished with a game-high 22 points, 16 of them coming in the second half, to lead Saucon (3-0).

Herron ended with 17 points for Jim Thorpe, now 0-4, while Josh Spruill contributed 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

N’western-Lehighton

Northwestern built an early lead and maintained it to earn a 39-27 non-league victory over Lehighton.

Brook Balliet finished with a team-high 14 points for the Tigers, who held a 20-10 halftime advantage.

The winners, now 3-1, also received eight points from Maci Fisher.

Charlie McHugh topped the Indians (1-4) with 14 points, while Taylor Bowman added eight.

Panther Vy.-ES North

A big third quarter helped Panther Valley pull away from East Stroudsburg North for a 66-30 non-league victory.

Maddison Maynard and Morgan Orsulak both scored 10 points in the third as the Panthers exploded for 28 points to turn a six-point halftime lead into a commanding 28-point advantage.

Maynard finished with a game-high 24 points, while Sera Robin tossed in 17. PV, now 3-2, also received 12 from Orsulak.

The Timberwolves (1-4) were led by Jasmin Romano’s 10 points.

Marian suffered its first loss of the season as perennial power Allentown Central Catholic rolled to a 46-21 victory.

The Fillies managed just one point in the opening quarter, while Madi Szoke scored six to help the Vikings open up an 11-1 lead.

Molly Driscoll finished with a game-high 17 points for the winners, now 3-1, while Szoke ended with 14.

Marian, also now 3-1, received a team-high 10 points from Addison Fritz.

WRESTLING

Sam Lovello Classic

Lehighton, Northern Lehigh and Panther Valley all competed at the Sam Lovello Classic, held at Brandywine Heights High School.

The Indians’ Jacob Ferguson (160 pounds) and Reese Balk (285) both took second-place honors, reaching the finals before falling.

Aidan Gruber earned third place at 121, helping Lehighton take third in the team standings. Ethan Nothstein also turned in a fourth-place finish.

The Bulldogs had two of their wrestlers capture third-place honors. Sam Frame gained a pin in his third-place bout at 285, while Chase Moffit gained a decision for third at 172.

Klingerman Invite

Tamaqua finished 14th in the team standings at the Darren Klingerman Invitational, held at Bloomsburg High School.

Aiden Schlier placed fifth at 114 pounds during the tournament, which featured 24 schools. Schlier went 4-2 in his six bouts.

The Blue Raiders also received a sixth-place finish from Gabe Erbe.
