Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 9

The Palmerton boys and Marian girls remained undefeated on the season with wins on Friday.

The Blue Bombers downed Pen Argyl, while the Fillies defeated Nativity.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

Palmerton won its third straight game to open the season, cruising to a 57-30 Colonial League victory over visiting Pen Argyl.

Chase Reph and Brayden Hosier each had seven first-half points to help the Blue Bombers build a 14-point intermission lead.

The winners upped the gap to 24 points as Matt Machalik tallied six points during a 21-11 third quarter.

Machalik and Hosier both finished the contest with 14 points, while Reph added 12.

Leading the Green Knights was Mason Soos, who ended with 11 points.

Palmerton is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marian-Nativity

Marian picked up its first league win of the season, rolling to a 60-35 Schuylkill League decision over rival Nativity.

Carly Minchhoff scored 11 of her game-high 13 points in the first half as the Fillies raced to a 34-14 advantage.

The winners, who received scoring from 10 different players, also benefited from eight points tallied by both Frankie Martinelli and Olivia Thomas.

Nativity was paced by Madison Kramer’s 11 points.

Marian is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Pocono Mountain East gained an early lead and then used a big fourth quarter to pull away from Pleasant Valley for a 51-31 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.

Six first-half points from Gabby Maldonado, Jayla South and Lily Soller helped the Cardinals grab an eight-point halftime lead.

The winners, behind six more points from Maldonado, clinched the victory with an 18-7 final frame.

Maldonando and South both finished with 14 points for Pocono East (3-2).

The Bears, who dropped to 0-4, received a team-high 13 points from Aryn Stivala. Katelyn Honadel chipped in with nine points, which came on three three-pointers.

Tamaqua-North Schuylkill

Camryn Mengel and Maddy Wetzel powered North Schuylkill to a 79-13 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

Mengel scored a game-high 23 points and Wetzel finished with 21 for the Spartans, who led by 50 points at halftime.

The Blue Raiders, who fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the league, received eight points from Lorelei Plasha.

North Schuylkill, which also won the JV game by a 38-4 score, improved to 1-0.

Salisbury-Northwestern

Salisbury used three pins and three forfeits to help gain a 45-23 Colonial League victory over Northwestern.

The Tigers earned three victories on the mat as Hunter Greenawalt (152) and Luke Fugazzatto (160) both registered falls, while Dalton Clymer added a technical fall at 172.

Northwestern won the junior high match 53-27.
