Carbon looking for new space for aging office

Palmerton is looking at the possibility of reclaiming space rented by Carbon County’s Area Agency on Aging for use for its police department.

Last week, Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said the county will be looking at possible new locations for the agency. The aging office already is in need of additional space because the department is outgrowing the current location.

He said that Palmerton and the county have been in discussions about the need for that office for the borough and that the borough is willing to work with the county.

“There’s no rush,” Nothstein said. “They’re not just throwing us out. They’re giving us time to look around and come up with another site.”

Commissioner Rocky Ahner said that Palmerton’s project is in the works but there is no hard timeline.

“They need room, we need room,” he said, adding that he doesn’t believe it will happen in the next year.

Commissioner Chris Lukasevich again that space issues could have been resolved if the county had moved on 410 Center Ave. when it initially looked at the building.

The Carbon County Area Agency on Aging is located at 401 Delaware Ave., Third Floor Palmerton.
