Lehighton changes curfew

A new curfew has been approved for Lehighton borough parks.

On a 6-0 vote, borough council on Monday adopted an ordinance amending the borough park time change, moving it up to 9 p.m.

That includes Community Grove, where mischief has been a problem for years. The park’s hours had been 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Borough Mayor Clark Ritter said last month that he’d like to see the curfew changed to 8 p.m.

Councilman Ryan Saunders said then that his concern is that the booster club practices at Baer Memorial often stretch beyond that time, and that he believes 9 p.m. would be sufficient.

Borough Manager Steve Travers said he hopes to have security cameras in place at the Grove by the middle of this month.

Councilman Darryl Arner was absent.
