Lehighton Band to perform Christmas concert Saturday

The Lehighton Band will present its 2022 Christmas concert at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Lehighton.

Following the concert, beverages and cookies will be served downstairs in the church’s fellowship room.

The band will open its concert with “Rejoice the Season” by Rob Romeyn, and perform many Christmas classics as well renditions of popular holiday songs.

The band’s first trombonist, Joseph Plechavy III, will sing a solo in “Grown Up Christmas List.”

Tickets for the concert are $5 each, and can be purchased in advance at Carbon County Music and More, or from any band member.

The Lehighton Band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.

First Presbyterian Church is at Third and Mahoning streets in Lehighton.

Contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith made the song “All is Well,” a familiar piece of Christmas music and the band will perform an arrangement of this song by Michael Brown.

The band will switch gears as it performs “A Jazzy Christmas,” which includes very lively renditions of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “The Holly and the Ivy” and “Good King Wenceslas.”

Another contemporary number, this time made famous by Amy Grant, “Grown Up Christmas List” will be presented with the Lehighton Band’s first trombonist, Joseph Plechavy III singing the solo.

A non-traditional version of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite entitled “The Nutty Nutcracker” which takes the familiar tunes, combines them with other concert works and creates a fun collections of songs.

The band’s long time announcer and oboe player, Barry Gangwer, is experiencing many health concerns and is not able to take part in the band’s Christmas concert. Casi Reichard, the band’s first chair clarinetist will present the beautiful solo, “Gabriel’s Oboe” which will be dedicated to Barry for his many years of witty commentary and oboe playing.

A Celebration of Carols, which includes “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Away in a Manger” and “Deck the Halls” will be followed by a Manheim Steamroller version of “Greensleeves” arranged by Robert Longfield. The band plays selections from The Polar Express, including “The Polar Express,” “When Christmas Comes to Town,” “Hot Chocolate,” “Believe and Spirit of the Season.”

Mash-Ups have become very popular over the past several years, so the band will present “Happy Holiday/White Christmas.” Each song will be featured separately, and by arrangements by Ted Ricketts the songs will be presented together as well.

A “Charlie Brown Christmas” arranged by Carl Strommen will then be presented which includes several songs from the classic animated Christmas special.

The band will then perform a very majestic version of “Angels from the Realms of Glory” by Robert W. Smith.

The band will perform a version of “Merry Christmas, Darling” arranged by Michael Brown. Joe Plechavy will lead the audience in singing carols, including “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “O Christmas Tree” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

It wouldn’t be Christmas without the thought of Santa visiting all those who were good this year and the band will perform C. Paul Herfurth’s version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

The band will wrap up the concert with the playing of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
