Summit Hill man dies in Va. crash

A Summit Hill man was killed in a crash last week on Interstate 495 in Virginia.

According to Virginia State Police reports, a tractor-trailer for Wegmans and a sedan crashed just before 8 p.m. on Nov. 30 along the northbound lanes near Braddock Road. The driver of the tractor-trailer, later identified as Richard Alburger, 41, of Summit Hill, exited his vehicle to help the person in the sedan and was struck by an SUV as he attempted to cross the lanes. The driver in the sedan was uninjured.

Following the crash, Wegmans confirmed the driver’s identity and said that Alburger worked for Penske Logistics out of Pottsville.

Alburger was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he died, police said.

According to 7News in Virginia, Wegmans and Penske extended their condolences to Alburger’s family.

Alburger was the son of Richard and Karin Alburger and the husband of Kelly Wesley.

He was the father of Faith, Fury, Kayla and Bella.

A funeral service will take place at Our Lady of Calvary Church in Philadelphia on Friday.
