Carbon adopts Act 57 ordinance

Carbon County has established the obligations for county tax collectors and the tax claim bureau to waive fees of a homeowner who purchased a home after tax bills were mailed and had not received them.

On Thursday, the board adopted an ordinance following Act 57 of 2022, effective Jan. 1.

County solicitor Robert Frycklund said the act allows for situations where the tax bill is sent while the home is being sold but not received by the new homeowner.

This now allows that homeowner to provide documentation showing when they purchased the home and whether the bill was not received.

If all requirements are met, any interest penalties would be exonerated, Frycklund said.
