Breinigsville woman hits tractor-trailer

A Breinigsville woman who admitted to smoking marijuana, falling asleep, and hitting a tractor-trailer in the parking lot of a West Penn Township business faces driving under the influence and related charges.

Jasmine Miller, 23, faces a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Dec. 27 before District Judge Andrew J. Serina of Orwigsburg.

West Penn Township Police Officer Kai B. Apel charged Miller with driving under the influence of a controlled substance - impaired ability, first offense; reckless driving; recklessly endangering another person; obedience to traffic-control devices; use/possession of drug paraphernalia; and DUI: controlled substance - schedule 1, first offense.

On Sept. 27, West Penn Township Police were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, it was discovered a GMC Terrain hit a parked tractor-trailer, split in half, and caught fire.

The driver of the GMC, Miller, admitted to smoking marijuana, falling asleep, and hitting the tractor-trailer, which was parked approximately 20 feet off Route 309 in a parking lot located at the Thunderhead Lodge.

Miller appeared to be under the influence, and drug paraphernalia was in plain view in the GMC.

She admitted to the emergency crew that she had drugs in her possession. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Upon arrival, hospital security found additional drug paraphernalia, which was then turned over to police.

Blood results confirmed that she was under the influence of a controlled substance.
