Penn State Hazleton to host SAT Prep course

Penn State Hazleton will offer its online course designed to prepare high school students for the SAT beginning Jan. 9.

The virtual SAT prep course runs through Feb. 23 and will be held on Mondays and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $350 and includes books and other materials. A reduced fee of $299 is available to those who register by Jan. 1.

Participants will receive additional course information, including a Zoom link to attend classes, after registering.

The course is designed to help students prepare for the four parts of the SAT: reading, writing and language, math, and the optional essay portion. Topics include the format of the SAT, how to prepare for it, and tips for taking the test.

Students also will have a chance to learn and practice the variety of reading and writing passages in the SAT and to practice the math skills that will be tested.

Familiarity with the current format of the SAT, recommended order for taking the test, ways to increase reading comprehension and understanding of paired passages, essay strategies and tips, and problem-solving methods to develop math skills are also emphasized in the course.

Additionally, students will learn the advantages and disadvantages of guessing, how to reduce the time needed to answer questions, how the tests are scored, and how to compute a score on sample tests.
