Palmerton news for Dec. 1, 2022

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m., and then traditional service at 11 a.m.

On Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 is a different schedule with only a combined service at 10 a.m. and no Sunday School.

Christmas Season Schedule:

Dec. 6: Prayer Shawl Ministry at 2 p.m.

Dec. 7, 14 and 21: Advent Bible Study “The Purpose of Christmas” at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Dec. 11: Choir Christmas Cantata “ The Silence & The Sound” at 3 p.m. Everyone throughout our community is welcome to attend this beautiful service to remember the birth of our Saviour, Jesus.

Dec. 18: Combined Sunday School with the kids program at 9:45 a.m.; Kids Christmas Party at 5:30 p.m.; Youth Group Christmas Party at 6:30 p.m.

Dec. 21: Blue Christmas Worship Service at 6 p.m. (Hope and Healing for all as we celebrate Christmas).

Dec. 24: Christmas Eve Worship Traditional Candlelight Service at 5 p.m.

Dec. 25: Christmas Day Worship at 10 a.m. with no Sunday School.

Dec. 31-: Community Pork & Sauerkraut takeout dinner noon to 2 p.m. Must sign up in lobby or call the church office to reserve a meal in time to pick up.

Jan. 1: New Year’s Day worship at 10 a.m. with no Sunday School.

Missions of the Month:

Volunteers in Mission to Puerto Rico: 100% of the gifts go the projects and materials, none to the caring volunteers.

ABC Food Pantry helping needy families within our church and people throughout our community. Food items and monetary donations are always welcome to help feed the needy.

Micah’s meals helping needy Palmerton School District students. Some food items we still need to fill the meals for these students are individual juice boxes and no refrigerated individual fruit and vegetable with a best used date of 4/23. All donations are welcome to help feed these students.

Jerusalem UCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, holds Sunday worship service in the church sanctuary at 10 a.m. Pastor Marion leads the worship.

You can also remain in your vehicle in the parking lot and listen to the service on radio station 95.5 or watch live on Facebook. The service is also posted on the website after the service.

The Christmas Program is scheduled for Dec. 11 at the 10 a.m. service. This year the kids helped to write some poems that help tell the story of Jesus’ birth. There will be one practice on Dec. 10, from 10-11 a.m. and then a Christmas party after the rehearsal.

Two Christmas Eve Services are planned this year. One at 5 p.m. in the Grove and one at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Holy Trinity Lutheran

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. If you plan to attend, call the church office at 610-826-2525.

If you are unable to attend in person, you may join on Zoom. Communion will be served. Please remember to bring food items for the food pantry.

Bible Study is in Fellowship Hall on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

The popular Children’s shopping will take place on Dec. 10 from a.m. to noon.

Movie night is back again. On Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. they will be presenting an appropriate for all ages Christmas movie. Come out for a movie and refreshments, a good time with fun and fellowship.

Drama Club

The Palmerton Area Drama Club will present Irving Berlin’s White Christmas the musical. It will be held Dec. 1, 2 and 3. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and curtain will be at 7 p.m. It will be held in the Palmerton Area High School auditorium.

Blue Mountain Community Church

Blue Mountain Community Church, 25 Oak St., Palmerton holds Sunday services at 8:45 and 10:30 a.m. Live streaming available.

Christmas Eve at Penn’s Peak

Blue Mountain Community Church is presenting Christmas Eve at Penn’s Peak, 325 Maury Road, Jim Thorpe. The free event is at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24.

A service, refreshments and photo op. No reservations or tickets needed. Wonderful music, an inspiring message. Come as you are and bring a friend.

Blanket drive

Tis the season to Share the Warmth with our local senior citizens this holiday season. Please consider donating a new, unused, unwrapped, fleece blanket or a monetary donation toward the purchase of one.

Blankets and/or monetary donations can be dropped off at the Sokol Hall 214, 452 Lehigh Ave., Palmerton.

Palmerton UVO

The Palmerton UVO removed flags from the cemeteries for the winter months. If you would like a flag on you veterans grave you can pick one up at the Palmerton VFW, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton.
