It’s time for the annual Angel Tree program at St. Mark’s and St John’s Episcopal Church on Race Street, Jim Thorpe.
The tree features tags that have a child’s first name, age, gender, and what gifts they would like for Christmas.
Some of the requested gifts include particular toys, crafts, gift cards for clothing, a variety of requested items. Some requests cut right to the heart of things. One 16-year-old boy asked for a box of food.
“We have about 100 tags on the tree,” said parish secretary Karen Horvath. “People come over, they take one or more and fill whatever they want on the slip.”
Wrapped gifts should be brought to the Tolman House across from St Mark’s Church on Race Street by Dec. 16. Horvath will take the gifts to the caseworkers at Children & Youth Services in Jim Thorpe, who will distribute the gifts to the children.
“A lot of them asked for gift cards, but the caseworker actually shops with the child,” Horvath said.
Anyone dropping off gifts must call the church at 570-325-2411 before going so Horvath can meet them.
