Fern Ridge crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:

• A two-vehicle was reported at 4:25 p.m. on Nov. 11 along Route 209 near the intersection with a parking lot of a local service station in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said interviews indicated the incident that a previous road rage incident began to occur near 209 and Shafers School House Road in Hamilton Township, and continued into Chestnuthill Township.

Troopers said Anthony M. Summa, 20, of Albrightsville, driving a 2006 Honda Accord, and Johnathan E. Wiggins, 31, of Effort, driving a 2022 Dodge Durango, were southbound when Summa entered the parking lot of the service station.

He then reentered 209 southbound as Wiggins was passing and his vehicle struck Wiggins’ vehicle. After initial impact the Summa vehicle struck the Wiggins’ vehicle a second time causing it to rotate about 180 degrees.

A witness told troopers he was behind the two and said he saw Summa attempting to pass Wiggins on the opposite lane and saw Summa’s vehicle strike Wiggins’ vehicle upon reentering the roadway.

No one was injured. A passenger with Wiggins was evaluated at the scene by emergency responders and released. Troopers said she is 29 weeks pregnant.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 7 along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said David P. Loyd, 74, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2018 Toyota Corolla northbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle left the road on the right side and struck a utility pole, then overturned.

No injuries were reported.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 11:31 a.m. on Nov. 8 along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Diego Ramos, 19, of Blakeslee, was southbound operating a 2018 Hyundai Sonata and attempting to make a U-turn onto State Road while Edward J. Obrien, 59, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 2017 Dodge Caravan northbound. Ramos turned left into the path of Obrien causing a collision.

No one was injured.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 8 p.m. on Nov. 18 along Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Lucas R. Ostrowski, 20, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2008 Ford Escape southbound when he lost control. The rear tire left the road which caused the Escape to overturn in the travel lane.

No injuries were reported.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:27 p.m. on Nov. 9 along Neola Road in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Nicole R. Shoemaker, 34, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2015 Subaru Impreza northbound when the vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and struck a guide rail along the southbound side of the road.

Shoemaker was not injured but the vehicle was towed.

She was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:54 p.m. on Nov. 21 along Stony Mountain Road in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Kenneth M. Greenfield Jr., 52, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2004 Hyundai Elantra eastbound when the vehicle left the road and struck two trees along the right berm before bouncing back onto the road. The vehicle came to final rest in the middle of the road.

Greenfield suffered a serious injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, by Lehighton ambulance. The vehicle was towed.

Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the Penn Forest Township Fire Company.
