Bach and Handel Chorale gears up for 38th season

The Bach and Handel Chorale, based in Jim Thorpe, will be presenting its 38th season of Christmas Concerts beginning on Saturday in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 526 North St., Jim Thorpe. The concert begins at 2 p.m.

Randall Douglas Perry, founder, artistic director and conductor, will accompany and conduct the chorale.

The chorale will begin the concert with the procession of the Chorale to “Adeste Fidelis” (O Come, All Ye Faithful), followed by “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw. It will then perform the popular “Mary did You Know” by Greene/Lowry, “O Holy Night” by Adam/Reigger and the joyous English carol “Ding Dong Merrily on High.”

The concert will continue with the deeply spiritual “Ave Verum” by Mozart, “Herrscher des Himmels,” sung in German from part 3 of the Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by “Panis Angelicus” by Franck, the all time favorite “Little Drummer Boy” by Simone et. Al and “Gesu Bambino” by Yon, featuring Chorale member Edward Sayre as Baritone soloist.

“Sing Gloria” by Davis will follow and a piano solo “In the Bleak Mid Winter” will be performed by Perry. Other selections include “And the Glory of the Lord” from “Messiah” by Georg Frideric Handel.

The audience will then be invited to sing three Christmas carols accompanied by the churches pipe organ and the concert will conclude with “Unto Us A Child Is Born” by Carter.
