Dinner served

Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting an annual community Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving in the Post 927’s Main Hall in Gilbert.

All are welcome.

Missions dinner

The next West End Missions dinner will take place at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 4:30 p.m., Thursday.

Trees needed

Zion recently posted that the church needs two 6-foot Christmas trees as well as greens for wreaths by Friday.

Anyone able to donate the same should call the church at 570-992-6988 to verify the need is still there.

Karaoke Night

The American Legion, Post 927, Gilbert, hosts Karaoke Night from 7 to 10 p.m. the second and fourth Friday of the month, this coming Friday.

Visiting pastor

The Rev. Joseph Sholtes is leading Sunday worship services at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville for the month of November. He has served congregations in Buck Run, Minersville, and Orwigsburg over the years.

After retirement he and his wife moved to Forks Township.

Anyone wishing to purchase poinsettias to help decorate the church for Christmas must do so on or before Sunday with payment presented to the church.

Advent evening

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is again hosting its annual gathering of women, high school and older, along with their female family members and friends for an evening of spiritual sharing in preparation for the Advent season.

This evening combines personal stories along with scripture, music, and prayer to set a deeper appreciation for the true meaning of Christmas. Dinner, generously donated by the Altar & Rosary society, will be served.

The theme for this year is Advent as seen through the eyes of Mary. It will take place Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m., in McCawley Hall.

PVEN Tricky Tray

Balanced Life Chiropractic is holding its third annual Tricky Tray benefiting the PVEN on Dec. 3.

Tickets can be bought at the business right across the road from PVEN during BCL office hours now through noon Dec. 3.

The drawing will be held at noon.

Effort UMC ushers

Effort UMC has announced that ushers and greeters will again be in service beginning Sunday.

Sunday supper

A Community Sunday Supper is being held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 3 p.m. this Sunday.

Poinsettias orders

The deadline to order poinsettias to beautify Effort UMC is Sunday. For individual plant costs for two different sizes, call the church office.

All ordered plants can be picked up after the 10 a.m. church service on Dec. 25.

Bingo Night

The American Legion Post 927 continues to host its open to community Bingo Night this coming Monday. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m. The first game call is at 7 p.m. There will be game specials as well as full bar and kitchen available.

Advent Night

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding an Advent Family Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.

It is to help families discover the true meaning of Advent as those families can stroll through five interactive stations set up in McCawley Hall.

They include exploring the Jesse Tree and constructing one’s own ornament; learning about the candles of Joy, Hope, Peace and Love; designing and building an Advent wreath with greens provided, and more.

Eucharist series

The Rev. Robert Simon, pastor at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, will present an Advent series on the Eucharist from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning next Wednesday and continuing Dec. 7 and Dec. 21.

Dinner is included.

Garden needs

From the Garden of Giving comes a heartfelt thank-you to and for its many volunteers.

However, as Linda Zak shares for the Garden, the work goes on in the Garden office. New board members are needed, as well as some helping hands in the office, to make the paperwork flow smoothly. Someone who can research and apply for financial grants is very much needed.

Toy drives

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is holding a toy drive for Toys for Tots. That drive will end Nov. 30.

The drop-off spot is the PVI Main Office.

Post 927, Gilbert, continues, its toy drive for Toys for Tots until Dec. 10. One can bring a new, unwrapped toy to Post 927 any day after 1 p.m.

Fair Trade sale

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has had a Fair Trade fundraising sale in partnership with SERRV international Saturday and Sunday. The sale will be a fundraiser that will benefit the parish’s St. Martin De Porres Charity account.

The sale is still available online through Dec. 3.

The parish will receive a certain commission, but one must use the web link https://www.servv.org?a=QOPFTsale in order for the parish to receive the donation.

Medicare info

From the Monroe County Pocono Seniors Express Times comes a resource for anyone having questions about Medicare.

One can call the PA MEDI Helpline from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 1-800-783-7060. The open enrollment runs through Dec. 7.

Winter adventure

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced its maple sugaring programs for schools, Scouts, homeschoolers as well as other organized groups.

Dates thave been set for Feb. 27 through March 10. Call 570-629-3061 to schedule and for cost per participant. Scheduling is done on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The two-hour tours include stops at stations providing information on the history of maple sugaring, the evaporating process that are used today and provides the groups with the opportunity to tap a maple tree.

Scout programs may be scheduled during the public day programs on March 4 and 11. Programs can be scheduled between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are open to any level of scouts and their families.
