PVHS drama

Treasure Island will be presented at the PV High School at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Yarn ministry

The Knit & Crochet Group at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville has made a calendar change. Normally the group meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, but for November and December the group has canceled the 4th Tuesday meetings due to the holidays. Hence no meetings on Nov. 22 and Dec. 27

The group’s work includes making prayer shawls and lap blankets for anyone in need.

In addition, members of the group, begun in November 2010, have also knitted and crocheted preemie caps, baby blankets, chemo caps, sweaters, scarves, mittens, helmet liners, Christmas stockings, ornaments, leprosy bandages, amputee stump covers, animal mats, knitted knockers, shrugs, Izzy dolls and baptismal cloths. These items have been sent near and far working with charities such as PVEN, homeless shelters, nursing homes, Knit for Kids, to Turkey for the Syrian refugees, American Cancer Society, leprosy victims in Vietnam, Project Linus, veteran centers, Knots of Love, AWSOM animal shelter, Seamen’s Church Institute for Christmas at Sea, mastectomy patients, Special Olympics and Ronald McDonald house.

Much has been made with donated yarn.

Craft fair/bake sale

The Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company Auxiliary is having a craft Fair and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday.

There will be crafts, including hand-knit sweaters, crocheted items, natural soaps, gifts for the home, Liztech Pins and many other items one can purchase for Christmas gifts.

One can have one’s picture taken with Santa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be the group’s Kaleidoscope quilt raffle drawing, bake sale, and lunch will be served. The firehouse is located on Rt. 115 across from Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg.

Special visitor

McMichaels UMC will be visited by the new District Supervisor at its 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. Members and friends are invited to welcome him.

Bells of help

The Western Pocono Lions Club will be ringing those bells at Kinsley’s in Brodheadsville for 2 hours on Saturday, to help the Salvation Army fill that red bucket, enabling the organization to give gifts to families in need.

Brunch & more

Girlfriends Brunch and Bible Study at the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will be meeting on Saturday. Members are collecting items for the nursing home such as candy, cookies, nail polish, small bracelets, scarves, stationary, pens, non-slip socks, hand cream and body lotion, liquid soap -no bars- deodorant, ChapStick and magazines.

Anyone wishing to help that project can drop of donations at the church from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Donations due

Families wishing to donate to those in need via Our Lady Queen of Peace, including turkeys and nonperishable trimmings, are urged to drop off said items at the church by Sunday.

Women’s Club meets

The Western Pocono Women’s Club is meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, at Effort UMC. The program will be making fun crafts.

This month’s donations by the group is for Angel’s Closet, an organization that donates layettes to local hospitals for those in need. Currently diapers, wipes and onesies are needed to fill these layettes.

Donation of any of these items is greatly appreciated.

T-day dinner

Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting an annual community Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Thursday in the Post 927’s Main Hall in Gilbert.

The Home Association is about serving those in need.

All are welcome is the invitation of the Post.

Donations for the dinner, including frozen turkeys of over 13 pounds, will be accepted through Monday.

PVI toy drive

The toy drive at PVI for Toys for Tots continues through Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Missions dinner

The next West End Missions dinner will take place at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 24.

Giving tree

West End churches in various towns in the area are participating in the yearly giving of gifts to Toys for Tots for its clients.

The deadline at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church for receiving such unwrapped is Dec. 4, the first Sunday in the month.

CWU meeting

Church Women United of Monroe County invites everyone to its Christmas covered dish luncheon at 1 p.m., Dec. 3, at Faith United Methodist Church, 1160 Clause Drive, Stroudsburg.

The Margaret Wyckoff Wells award and CWU Valiant Woman Award will be given out at that time. Those who made filled Christmas stockings which will be given out to area organization are reminded to bring them.

Legion’s reach-out

Post 927 American Legion in Gilbert is collecting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots by way of a special Christmas event.

The instructions are to follow the Star on the Hill behind the old Coordinated Health Building at 137 Pleasant Lane in Brodheadsville where a special Christmas display event takes place Saturday, Dec. 3, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Hot chocolate, cookies and candy canes will be there also.

Block shoot

A block shoot and meat raffle will be held at the Kunkletown Rod and Gun Club, at 122 Gun Club Lane Saylorsburg, Dec. 4, beginning at 11 a.m., with 12-gauge shotgun only.

The public is welcome.

Santa time

On Dec. 10, Santa in the Park will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville.

Eldred Commission

The Eldred Township Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Nov. 9, was canceled.

The next scheduled meeting will be on Dec 14.

Musical ahead

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting A Tree Lot Christmas, a children’s Christmas musical, on Dec. 16. and Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

There is no cost to attend this event.
