Tamaqua man charged with threatening woman

A Tamaqua man was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison on charges he threatened the life of a borough woman, Tamaqua police said.

Jonah Rodriguez, 42, was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment for incidents that occurred between Oct. 21 and Nov. 2.

According to police, Rodriguez’s roommate contacted police on Nov. 2 and said he threatened to trash the house and would “have something coming to her” when she returns from work. She said he forced himself into her bedroom on Oct. 31, threatened her with a screwdriver and took her cellphone.

She also told police that in late October, Rodriguez said he was going to kill her with a gun she keeps locked in a safe.

Police said Rodriguez has threatened violent crimes in the past.

He was taken into custody and arraigned by video by Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer. He was unable to post $25,000 percentage bail.
