Rotary club supports community, Ukraine

For almost a century the Jim Thorpe Rotary Club has been serving the Jim Thorpe community and beyond.

“Service above Self,” the Rotary motto, has resulted in funding for more than 70 local organizations over the past seven years.

That includes an 8-week, full-day summer camp at Memorial Park at no cost to families: high school scholarships; a leadership camp; teacher educational grants; and funding for multiple, local charities and service organizations. The club is now working to increase quality child care and early education for children and families.

Jim Thorpe Rotary Club members are committed to promoting service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership. It is in that spirit that the Jim Thorpe Club has contributed to supplying disaster relief for Ukraine. The club has cooperated with its local district, in conjunction with three New Jersey districts, and one in southern New York state, to assist the people of Ukraine. The clubs have sent a Rotary International Disaster Relief Fund grant of $125,000 to Ukraine.

The grant will be administered in partnership with Rotarians in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital. It provides humanitarian assistance to a medical shelter by supplying beds, mattresses, blankets, linens and pillows and other necessary items.

The Jim Thorpe Rotary club has also contributed $1,000 to ShelterBox (supplies shelter and necessary supplies for individuals displaced by the war) to help support the Ukrainian people.
