State police at Frackville

State police at Frackville reported on the following cases investigated by troopers at Schuylkill County locations.

• On Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. troopers responded to the Walmart store in the Plaza Mall in Rush Township. Loss prevention personnel observed Ashley Bynon, 28, of Tamaqua, concealing various cosmetic products and placing them into a bag. She then exited the store without paying for any of the items, which had a total value of $149.90. She was stopped by store personnel outside the store and detained. All the items were recovered.

A check revealed Bynon had an outstanding arrest warrant issued out of Carbon County for failure to appear. She was taken into custody on the warrant and placed in the county prison in Pottsville pending transfer to Carbon County. She was charged with retail theft for the Walmart incident.

• On Oct. 16 at 10:41 a.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township of a 2017 Ford Fiesta. The driver, Toni Vail, 21, of Middletown, New York, showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody for driving under the influence. She was processed and later released.

• On Oct. 20 at 12:37 p.m. troopers responded to 17 Evans St., in New Philadelphia. A 65-year-old man from New Philadelphia, advised troopers that Joseph Bernitsky, 59, of New Philadelphia, engaged in a verbal confrontation with his neighbor regarding a civil property issue. The altercation became physical when Bernitsky pushed the victim over a plastic flower pot on his front porch and then threw it at him before fleeing the area.

A summary offense of harassment - physical contact was filed against Bernitsky.

• On Oct. 19 at 8:20 a.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop at East and West Blaine Street in McAdoo of a 2006 Dodge Dakota truck. The driver, Nelson Hernandez Colato, 27, of McAdoo, showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody for DUI. He was process and later released.

• A Tower City man is facing charges of interference with custody of children, a felony 2. Troopers said they received a report that a 14-year-old girl from Mount Olive Boulevard in West Mahanoy Township, leaving her residence without her father’s permission and met with Clyde Fesig, 38.

Fesig, who knew the girl was 14, drove her to Austintown, Ohio. Austintown police detained Fesig on a Pennsylvania warrant. Fesig was returned to Schuylkill County and lodged in the county prison unable to post $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10 before District Judge Anthony Kilker of Shenandoah. The girl was reunited with her father.

• On Oct. 25 at 11:28 a.m. a traffic stop was conducted at East Darkwater and Darkwater roads in New Castle Township of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee for an expired registration.

The owner/operator, Mohammed Bayon, 30, of Sinking Springs, Berks County, was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

• On Oct. 30 Shawn Lazer, 52, of Barnesville, entered property owned by Bear’s Head Sportsman Association located north of the village of Trenton, in Delano Township. The land is properly posted and Lazer is not a member of the association. While on the property Lazer removed a trail camera belonging to the club that was attached to a tree.

A member of the club received a trail camera activation on his phone and responded to the property where he confronted Lazer. Lazer returned the camera to the victim.

Lazer was charged with theft and criminal trespass.

• On Nov. 1 at 4:58 p.m. troopers responded to Water Street in New Philadelphia for a domestic incident. An investigation determined that an argument took place between Benjamin Raub, 20, of New Philadelphia, and a 20-year-old woman from Pottsville. Raub grabbed the woman, pushed and shoved her.

Raub was issued a citation for harassment - physical contact.
