PA House 122nd Legislative District

Carbon County’s representative in the state House of Representatives will be decided on the General Election on Tuesday.

Rep. Doyle Heffley, a Republican who has served in the House since 2011, and Richard Kost, the Democratic challenger, are the candidates.

Following redistricting after the 2020 Census, all of the county is back in the 122nd district. Previously, the redistricting that followed the 2010 Census had cut Summit Hill Borough out of the district.

With Summit Hill back in it, the district is comprised of 64,866 residents.

A Pennsylvania representative’s base salary is $95,432.

Heffley won the seat in the 2010 election following the retirement of Speaker of the House Keith R. McCall. Previously, he was a consultant in the trucking industry.

The current legislator, a resident of Lower Towamensing Township, sits on the House Appropriations, Human Services, Tourism and Recreational Development and Transportation committees.

Heffley is a graduate of Lehighton Area High School and the Lincoln Technical Institute, Allentown.

Kost, a Palmerton resident, runs his own business as an independent contractor. He serves Palmerton as vice president of its Civil Service Commission.

He is a graduate of Palmerton Area High School and Kutztown University, where he obtained a bachelor of political science degree.
