All Souls Day

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will honor all its loved ones at a special Mass tonight at 7 p.m. There will be a special acknowledgment made of those whose funeral took place at Our Lady Queen of Peace during this past year, since last All Souls Day, with a special candle and their names will be read at the Prayer of the Faithful.

TOPS meeting

A TOPS meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.

Monthly meeting

Post 927, Gilbert, members will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Guests are welcome.

Crafts & Gifts

The Chestnuthill Park will be bustling with activity as a craft and gift fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Fall bazaar

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown is holding its fall bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is sponsored by St. Matthew’s Layman’s Fellowship.

It includes a rummage sale and a bake sale. All will take place in the church’s social hall.

All food will be take-out only. No tables will be available for eating in.

Art opening

The work of local artists Matt Giambra and Drew Wagner will be on display in the Gallery at Kettle Creek through Nov. 30.

The artists can be greeted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday. Their exhibit will feature a collection of nature-themed photographs by Matt Giambra and woodworking made from wood sourced from local trees and mills by Drew Wagner.

Pie crust order

Folks who ordered pie crusts from Zion Lutheran are reminded pickup dates are Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., and Sunday, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

All Saints Sunday

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will celebrate All Saints Sunday with 8:30 and 10:30 worship services on Sunday. Both services will include Holy Communion with Remembering those baptized and those who died this past year.

Football focus

On Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m., the West End Home Association of the American Legion in Gilbert will be enjoying Sunday football games, with food and bar specials.

On Monday from 6 to 11 p.m., there will be more football for members.

Ross meeting

The Ross Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 6 p.m. Monday a the township municipal building at 250 Anchorage Rd., Saylorsburg.

Bingo night

It’s bingo night at the American Legion on Monday and that is an open-to-community event. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m.

Valor visit

Volunteers from Valor are slated to be at Kinsley’s in Brodheadsville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, where the organization is accepting donations of nonperishable items for its holiday meals program and can answer questions about the Valor program. Also being accepted are gift cards for its holiday meal program.

Pork & kraut dinner

Effort UMC is hosting its annual pork & sauerkraut dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday. The cost remains the same as last time.

MJMT free concert

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting the family band, MJM7, at 7 p.m., Monday, in McCawley Hall. That band is comprised of Michael James Mette, and his children: Charity, Cecilia and MJ.

The concert is free but donations are being accepted.

The family group will also be part of the Mass at 5 p.m., Saturday, and at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday.

Block shoot

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding a block shoot and meat raffle on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.

It is a 12-gauge shotgun only event. The public is welcome.

Sunday parade

Operation Touch of Home will be part of the Veterans Day Parade will be held on Nov. 6 in Stroudsburg. The parade begins at 1 p.m.

Anyone joining OTOH can park at Dansbury Park and take a shuttle to the high school where parade starts.

The OTOH group will be meeting at the high school any time after 11 a.m.

Sign-up time

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is accepting sign-ups for its Toys for Tots program now.

Angel Tree sign-ups were automatically registered for the Toys for Tots program.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran Church’s needle pliers group is meeting at 1 p.m., Tuesday. Newcomers are welcome.

Human trafficking

Next Wednesday, at 7 p.m., Monroe County Detective Kim Lippincott from the Monroe County District Attorney’s office will present a program on human trafficking at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville.

Human trafficking happens in Monroe County and reportedly in the West End. The detective will present relevant information as to how folks can help stop it.

Mission meal

The next West End Mission meal will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 10.

Cheesecake sale

The PVEN is having a cheesecake sale with orders due by Nov. 11. The flavors are peanut butter cup, Oreo cookie, plain, pumpkin, and raspberry swirl. For costs and other information, call the PVEN at 570-992-3136.

Veterans Day events

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at the American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, at 11 a.m., Nov. 11, for the community. There will be guest speakers and a light lunch will be provided.

Polk Township is having an event to honor its Veterans on Veterans Day. It begins at noon on Nov. 11, at the Veterans’ Memorial on Trach Road in Kresgeville.

Parking is available at Salem-St. Paul’s Church.

Donations needed

Effort UMC’s food pantry is seeking donations for the month of November including: holiday items, boxed cakes, frosting, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry and veggies.

McMichaels UMC

McMichaels UMC will be serving a community donation-only breakfast including beverages from 8 to 10 a.m., Nov. 12.

A.A. continues to meet at the church every Wednesday at noon and Saturday evening at 6:30. There is no charge for the class and the meetings are strictly confidential.

The meetings are presented by a professional.

Tricky Tray time

Orphan Outreach Mission is having its yearly Tricky Tray at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Nov. 12. Doors open at 9 a.m. Drawings begin at 12:30 p.m.

There is a cost for admission and extra sheets of tickets.

Food and snacks will be available for purchase.

Special Sunday

Family and youth will gather for a day of giant games on from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 13. It will include UNO, Sorry, Candy Land and more.

Attendees will also be assembling care packages for the homeless. Pizza and refreshments will be served.

Those able to do so are asked to bring an adult hat, gloves or mittens for the church packages.

Unique program

The Western Pocono Community Library will have a special program at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 16, when William R. Stavey visits.

He will present a program and display a Depression-era Appalachia as told through the TV show, The Waltons.

Meeting change

The Western Pocono Lions Club has announced a time change to its monthly meeting at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville effective Nov. 17.

The change is to accommodate the restaurant schedule The club will now meet at 6 p.m.

Vendors sought

The Western Pocono Community Library is seeking vendors for the WPCL Craft fair on Nov. 19.

Auxiliary event

Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company Auxiliary is having a craft fair and a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 20.

There will be crafts, including hand-knit sweaters, crocheted items, natural soaps, gifts for home, Liztech pins and any other items.

One can also have one’s picture taken with Santa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be a Kaleidoscope quilt raffle drawing, bake sale, and lunch will be served. The firehouse is located on Rt. 115 across from Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg.
