Pleasant Valley board honors students of the month
The Pleasant Valley School Board congratulated the students of the month for October during its meeting on Oct. 20.
As their names were called, the students and their parents came up to the podium before the board. In most cases, the student’s teacher read a statement about why he or she was chosen. If the teacher wasn’t able to attend, then the principal from that school read the teacher’s statement. Each student received a certificate, notebook and pencil.
The students included:
• PVES - Kindergarten, Anistyn Burger; first grade, Grant Pyskaty; second grade, Daniel Devore.
• PVIS - third grade, Dylan Antonucci; fourth grade, Audrey Freyer; fifth grade, Hayden Glover.
• PVMS - sixth grade, Noelle Wolff; seventh grade, Sophia Cerino; eighth grade, Amanda Davis.
• PVHS - ninth grade, Hunter Spanburgh; tenth grade, Emma Procita; eleventh grade, Chelsea Ward; and twelfth grade, Lishka Soto-Semidey.
The principals also reported to the school board about events at their schools.
Principal Roger Pomposello had a long list for the elementary school. One of the things he was proud of was the students who showcased the STREAM learning tools at the school board meeting on Oct. 6. Those students included Stella-Rose Davis, Logan Breslove, Cam Misero and Everly Borger. He also reported that the students enjoyed the assembly titled “Rachel’s Challenge,” which highlights the importance of kindness.
From the intermediate school, principal Kendal Askins said assistant principal Tim McCutchan said he would kiss a goat if the students raised $25,000 for the Cherrydale fundraiser hosted by the PTO. They raised more than $37,000 just in online sales.
Principal Jason Van Voorhis said the clubs are getting underway at the middle school. The Ecology Club had their first meeting, and students have begun signing up for Student Government and the Chess Club.
The king and queen of the Homecoming court were announced. Co-principal Brian Boylan said Frankie Morales was crowned king, and Sarah Firestone was crowned queen. The prince and princess were James Barruzza and Caia Harris. The Homecoming dance will be held Nov. 12 and will be called the Fall Ball.
Like the elementary school, the high school also participated in Rachel’s Challenge. Ten teachers and 100 students will participate in Friends of Rachel training.
Also noteworthy, the PTO has purchased all caps and gowns for the graduating Class of 2023, and the National Honor Society was awarded a plaque from the Toys for Tots/Marine Corps for their donation in December 2021.
