A Jim Thorpe man who is accused of assaulting the owner of a downtown business is facing multiple charges after an incident on Sunday at 5:47 p.m. at the business.
John M. Lazo Jr., 38, of Jim Thorpe, is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness.
In an affidavit of probable cause, Officer Ryan Poeldnurk of the Jim Thorpe Police Department said he was dispatched to Molly Maguire’s Irish Pub for a report that a man had assaulted the bar owner.
The pub’s owner, Darren Behan, told Poeldnurk that Lazo was in a highly intoxicated state and had slapped a waitress in the behind while making an inappropriate comment to her.
Behan said he texted Lazo and told him not to place his hands on any of his staff ever again. He said Lazo replied with a threat that he was going to “break his neck” and “rip his head off.”
Behan said Lazo entered the bar from a rear door and grabbed him by the neck, putting him in a headlock and striking him several times in the head. The altercation was broken up by staff and Lazo left the premises, police said.
The officer said he made contact with Lazo in his apartment, where the man admitted to the incident and was taken into custody.
