Tamaqua woman sentenced for trespassing

A Tamaqua woman who was charged numerous times with trespassing will spend time in jail.

Schuylkill County Judge Christina E. Hale sentenced Judith A. Vacula, 51, to serve three to 23 months in jail.

She was ordered to report to jail at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Vacula was also forbidden to set foot on the properties of 237, 239, and 241 East Broad St., Tamaqua.

Hale also fined Vacula $300 and ordered her to perform 75 hours of community service.

Vacula was charged by borough Police Officer Karl L. Harig with five counts each of criminal trespass-breaking into a structure, and criminal trespass for entering an East Broad Street property on March 2, 2021. The charges were filed on Nov. 23, 2021.

Vacula on Oct. 13 pleaded guilty to one count of criminal trespass-breaking into a structure.

One count of criminal trespass was merged for sentencing, and all of the remaining charges were dropped.

Vacula has been charged with trespassing at the properties for two years.

A year ago, a jury found her guilty of one count of criminal trespass and three counts of defiant trespass for trespassing at 237 E. Broad St. on Feb. 3, 2021 despite “condemned” signs on the property.

Testimony by then Tamaqua police officer Michael G. Weaver revealed that Vacula had condemnation signs in her car that had previously been posted on the property.

Vacula does not own the property, according to Schuylkill County online real estate records.
