State police at Schuylkill Haven — crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:11 p.m. on Oct. 13 along Blue Mountain Road in Port Clinton. Troopers said Storm R. Etherington, 20, of Pottsville, was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee when he lost control on a right curve in the road. The vehicle crossed into the other lane of travel, then onto the berm where it struck the guide rail.

He was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• A crash was reported at 10:36 a.m. on Oct. 9 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Aeden M. Hine, 18, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2009 Lexus northbound when he lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to spin out and strike a curb. The vehicle then traveled down an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its roof.

Hine was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

• Troopers reported investigating a hit-and-run crash in the parking lot of the Planet Fitness along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. A 2016 BMW was legally parked in the lot when another driver attempted to enter the stall next to it. The other vehicle sideswiped the BMW. The driver then fled the scene. The BMW sustained minor damages.

The incident was reported on Oct. 10 at 5:45 p.m.

• Joseph G. Ruiz, 19, of Schuylkill Haven, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 8:07 p.m. Oct. 14 on Route 443 in North Manheim Township.

Police said he was driving a 2012 Honda Accord eastbound when he lost control of the vehicle. It left the roadway and struck a utility pole, resulting in disabling damages that required the vehicle to be towed from the scene.

Police said Ruiz was cited.

• The driver of a vehicle that struck a deer, and her passenger, were uninjured in an incident that happened at 6:41 p.m. Oct. 9 on Route 61 in West Brunswick Township.

Police said Yadira Diaz, 44, of Mount Carmel, was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla southbound when the deer entered the roadway and was struck in the left lane.

• State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said a 2021 Jeep Gladiator sustained minor damages in an incident at 6:36 a.m. Oct. 11 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township.

Police said a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia traveling south on the highway ran over a piece of road debris that was sent airborne and struck the Gladiator.

Police said neither of the drivers, whom they did not identify, were injured.
