Roads aren’t the only topic for the Slatington borough council.

The council made a motion to approve a quote from Kromer Plumbing, Heating and Air for a new air conditioning unit in the police department. The cost is $6,650.

“This unit’s been dying,” said borough Manager Daniel Stevens. “We had to recharge it every year for the last three years. Kromer came out and said the compressor is dying. I think it’s the oldest unit we have.”

Kromer Plumbing put a booster on it to keep the compressor running temporarily.

In other business:

• Authorized Stevens to approve an Exemption Report from Statewide Tax Recovery Inc. for Delinquent Per Capita Taxes. The report consists of 36 residents for a total of $7,694.50. The taxes were from 2010 through 2014.

• The water was tested and found safe for human consumption, and a motion was made to authorize Lehigh Engineering to prepare bid specs for upgrades to the Autocon Control Panel at the water filtration plant.

• Approved selling on Municibid about 20 hanging industrial lights from the water filtration plant.

• Authorized the Water Committee to apply for a COVID-19 ARPA PA Small Water and Sewer Grant. The grant range is between $30,000 and $500,000.

• A “Sustainable Backyard Workshop” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Lehigh County Authority, 1053 Spruce Road, Wescosville, to discuss storm water solutions for homeowners in Lehigh County.
