Haunted house opens in Franklin Township

A new haunted attraction is open in Franklin Township for Halloween thrill seekers.

Kory Rabenold has opened the Devil’s Last Laugh Haunted Attraction at 4005 Lon Run Road.

The attraction is open Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 29. The cost is $15 per person.

Rabenold said the Walcksville Asylum is the main attraction located in the 50 x 80 pole barn he and his late father “Buzzy” built.

He said the way it works is visitors board a wagon and head from the parking lot down to Devil’s Last Laugh where they are dropped off. From there, they head right into Mr. Pickles Sideshow Scare Zone, where Mr. Pickles sets up a sideshow featuring his sinister carney misfits to carry on his name for years to come. Their job is to recruit new carneys, so it’s suggested to watch your back as you could be next.

Rabenold said those who make it through the Sideshow Scare Zone will then enter into a line for the main attraction, the Walcksville Asylum, which was founded in 1863 where Dr. Fredrick housed the most insane killers of all time.

The latest and most recognized is “Mr. Pickles” who has been convicted of murder and proven insane. Guests take a tour of the asylum where Mr. Pickles resides.

The asylum has been on lock down because of rumors of Mr. Pickles planning a massive escape. Guests are escorted through the many acres of the estate to the asylum, where they are screened by security and move forward to briefing for further instructions. They are warned the tour will leave them shaken up for nights to come.

Rabenold said he’s “very excited to host my event on my property in Franklin Township.”

“This has been a dream of mine since I was 12 years old,” Rabenold said. “I work countless hours to build my haunt from the ground up.”

“I know my dad would be so appreciative to everyone who made this happen,” he said. “He sees how much hard work building and planning I did that he’s definitely smiling down on me.”

Rabenold said his dad built all kinds of Christmas lights that he used to decorate Buzzy’s Auto Body with, and their home growing up.

“I really would like to one day in the future have a Christmas Lane and show his Christmas creations to families for years to come,” he said. “Of course it would have a little spin on it, as Devil’s Last Laugh would have the haunt open with Christmas lights hung throughout.”
