Carbon County Court — DUI Pleas

A total of 13 defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accept pleas from the following:

Jovani Joseph Rodriguez, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts of DUI in two separate cases.

He was arrested on June 5, 2020, by Weissport police along Franklin Street for DUI of a controlled substance. He was arrested a second time on May 1, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Mahoning Mountain Road in Mahoning Township, for DUI of a controlled substance. In that case two juveniles, ages 2 and 3, were in the vehicle. A endangering the welfare of a child charge was dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and also apply for the house arrest program.

Michael William Hadzick, 60, of Weatherly, was arrested on May 12, 2021, by state police at Hazleton along Hudson Drive in Packer Township. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC.

A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.

Kwham Shunard Alexander, 38, of Philadelphia, was arrested on June 7, 2021, along the turnpike in Kidder Township by state police at the Pocono barracks. A test revealed a 0.26 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred.

Robin A. Kucowski, 60, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on May 15 by Jim Thorpe police along Susquehanna Street. A test revealed a 0.28 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so she can apply for placement in the house arrest program.

Omar Ponce, 43, of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was arrested on Dec. 8, 2021, by Mahoning Township police along Mahoning East Drive for DUI of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Oct. 21.

Douglas John Rimbey, 46, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 3 by state police at Lehighton along East Amidon Street in Summit Hill, for DUI of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on Oct. 25.

Aaron Michael Marlow, 29, of Bowmanstown, was arrested on May 22, 2021, along White Street in Bowmanstown, by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.15 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Harry Kuhlman Stahl, 49, of Nazareth, was arrested on Feb. 18 by state police at Lehighton along Mauch Chunk Street in Mahoning Township, for DUI of a controlled substance.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison on a probation violation.

He sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and render 100 hours of community service when paroled.

He was granted work release privileges. The prison term began immediately.

Justin Scott Geary, 29, of Bowmanstown, was arrested on Aug. 26, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Mill Street, Bowmanstown, for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Hunter Paul Skidmore, 24, of Lansford, was arrested on Sept. 30, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Hunter Street in Nesquehoning, for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for the house arrest program.

Tabitha Renee Amey, 48, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 6, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 in Bowmanstown. A test revealed a 0.18 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so she can get a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for the house arrest program.

Travis D. Zanders, 52, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 20, by Lehighton police along Bridge Street. A test revealed a 0.29 BAC.

A first offense he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.

Zachery A. Czonstka, 34, of Slatington, was arrested on Feb. 24 by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 at the Palmerton exit, for DUI of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service. He was given credit for 28 days spent in a inpatient rehabilitation program and paroled.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
