Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 3

Charli McHugh had another big performance to lift the Lehighton girls soccer team into the postseason with a win on Monday.

Elsewhere, Tamaqua’s girls soccer team reached a milestone win with a dominating performance, and Northwestern, Panther Valley, Pleasant Valley and Weatherly all posted wins in volleyball action.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

A second-half surge propelled Lehighton to a 6-1 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

After trailing 1-0, and then only holding onto a slim 2-1 lead at half, the Indians (9-5, 5-4 SL) erupted for four second-half goals to punch their ticket to the district 3A playoffs.

Charli McHugh went on to score her third hat trick in a week for the Indians (9-5 overall; 5-4 SL), as she posted a goal in the first half and then added two more after intermission. McHugh also had assists on the first of two goals for Mylee Lutsko. Karissa Moyer added a goal and two assists. Ciara Behrel (eight) and Hannah Lichtenwalner (six) combined to make 14 saves in the win.

North Schuylkill slipped to 2-11 overall, and 2-7 in the league.

Marian-Tamaqua

Kimmy Rudy’s big day helped Tamaqua roll to a commanding 8-1 win over visiting Marian.

Rudy scored four goals and added two assists as the Raiders (6-9) secured the 250th victory for the program, which is in its 24th varsity season.

Sarah Hope added two goals and two assists, while Kolbe Robb contributed a goal and an assist in the win. Addison Rummel also scored her first varsity goal for Tamaqua.

Caitlyn Kovatch scored for the Fillies (0-13), while Madison Kattner finished with 14 saves.

Williams Valley-Weatherly

Williams Valley posted a 9-1 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Erin Prete scored the only Weatherly goal. Bethany Houser assisted on the score.

The Wreckers dropped to 3-11 on the season.

Northern Lehigh-Saucon Vy.

Saucon Valley cruised to a 9-1 Colonial League victory over visiting Northern Lehigh.

Katelynn Barthold posted the Bulldogs’ only goal, which was unassisted, while Dekotah Barthold grabbed 10 saves.

Northern Lehigh falls to 10-6 overall (6-5 CL), while Saucon Valley moves to 10-4 (7-3).

VOLLEYBALL

Northwestern-Lehighton

Northwestern came away with a 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20 non-league victory over Lehighton.

Lily Kershner paced the Indians with eight kills and six blocks, while Lorah Thomas followed with seven kills and two blocks. Haley Ginder (six kills, four digs, three aces, two assists), Madelyn Sofranko (24 assists, three aces) and Madilynn Stoffey (five kills, two blocks) also contributed for the hosts.

Northwestern moves to 9-4 overall, while Lehighton falls to 5-11 on the season.

Panther Valley-Blue Mountain

Panther Valley swept Blue Mountain 25-20, 25-13, 25-19 in a Schuylkill League match.

Riley McArdle put up six kills, two blocks and 18 digs for the Panthers (11-2), while Caroline Berslin had nine digs, and Maddison Maynard recorded one kill and five blocks in the win.

Pleasant Valley-ES South

Pleasant Valley cruised to a 25-8, 25-6, 25-6 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.

Nora Jones had four kills, eight aces and three digs for the Bears, while Emma Bergstresser added five kills and one dig.

Jackie James (four kills, four assists, two aces, one block, one dig) and Brianna Bruckman (eight assists, three digs, two aces, one kill) also helped PV move to 9-6, 8-6 EPC.

Lincoln Leadership-Weatherly

Weatherly posted a 25-13, 25-16, 25-17 victory over Lincoln Leadership.

Abby Paisley had three kills and three assists for the Wreckers (4-12), while Jenna Winkler recorded three aces. Kelly Michaels also had two aces and a kill for Weatherly, which has won its last two matches.

Catasauqua-Tamaqua

Catasauqua rallied for a 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-10, 15-7 win over Tamaqua.

Cora Soltis led the way for the Roughies (5-10) with seven kills, 28 digs, five aces and one block, while Delaney Troxell chipped in with seven kills, 20 digs, four aces and a block.

Kaylee Kuhn finished with three kills, five digs, four aces and one block for the Raiders (1-16), while Sarah Coccio (six blocks, one ace), Ashlyn Houser (nine digs, four aces, one kill) and Gabby Blasko (seven digs, three aces, one block) also aided Tamaqua.

BOYS SOCCER

Saucon Valley-Northern Lehigh

Saucon Valley defeated Northern Lehigh 6-1 in Colonial League play.

Ethan Moore accounted for the Bulldogs’ (2-11-1, 0-9-1 CL) only score on a penalty kick. Ethan Kunkle finished with 18 saves for the Bulldogs.

Saucon Valley jumped to 5-7 (5-6).

GIRLS TENNIS

Notre Dame ES-Tamaqua

Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg posted a 4-1 win over Tamaqua.

Brooke Williams recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over the Spartans’ Siya Amin at No. 3 singles for the Blue Raiders (2-10). Notre Dame-ES improved to 6-7.
