Life Chain set

Catholics from across the area are reminded that during the month of October, Respect Life Month, the Church asks its members to reflect more deeply on the dignity of every human life.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will participate in a Life Chain at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Attendees are asked to meet at the church’s chapel entrance to get a poster or to bring their own.

Prayer Shawl

There are several groups in the West End which make Prayer Shawls.

Effort UMC’s group will meet Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet group will meet again Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.

PVEN needs

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is in need of the following items: razors, shaving cream, body wash, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, tissues, cleaning products and laundry products.

Fundraiser event

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is hosting a rummage/bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 7 and 8.

For sale will be the usual items including baked goods, clothing, shoes, household items, knickknacks, holiday items, toys and books and whatever else is donated, all to benefit the church.

Park movie set

Hocus Pocus, a movie, will be shown in the West End Park in Brodheadsville from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m., Oct. 8.

Valor collections

There is a barrel at Kinsleys for Valor for donations. However, there will be Valor volunteers at Kinsleys from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Oct. 8 and Nov. 4 in order to talk to someone directly about the organization.

Weekly walks

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center continues to offer weekly guided Tannersville Bog walks at 1 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 9.

These 2½ hour walks will be guided by an environmental educator who will teach participants about the Bog, a unique boreal bog for this area, owned by the Nature Conservancy.

There is a cost.

To preregister, which is required, call the E.E. Center at 570-629-3061, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Roast beef dinner

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is offering a drive-through roast beef dinner, complete with dessert, from 3:30 to 7 p.m., Oct. 22.

Reservations are requested, but not mandatory.

Pie crust sale

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is accepting orders for homemade pie crusts, single crust, packaged individually in aluminum pie tins. The orders must be in by Oct. 31.

Pickup times, at Zion, include 1 to 4 p.m., Nov. 3, and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 6.

Orphan fundraiser

The Orphan Outreach Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host a Tricky Tray from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 12, in McCawley Hall.

Orphans of all ages with disabilities in Ukraine continue to need support as they continue to be treated without dignity or respect.

There is an admission cost to the tricky Tray which includes some tickets. More are available for an additional donation.

Food and beverage will be available for purchase ad well as a hoped for over 150 baskets and gift certificates.

Last year, the funds raised enough to help 250 disabled orphans from Eastern Ukraine evacuate and settle successfully in the West. In addition, a heated tile floor was installed in a large recreation room for the girls at the orphanage in Zulachchia. Remodeling their bathroom will be next.
