Rt. 248 sobriety checkpoint results in DUI, drug charges

Several drivers were charged during a sobriety checkpoint last Friday along Route 248.

The Palmerton Police Department had a sobriety checkpoint in conjunction with the Northumberland County Regional Police Traffic Services Project.

Palmerton police were assisted by the Lehighton police, as well as West Penn Township, Mahanoy Township, West Mahanoy Township, Branch-Reilly Township, and Ashland police.

The checkpoint was conducted on Route 248 West.

Two drivers were charged with driving under the influence, two charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and one charged for a counterfeit inspection certificate.

Two drivers were taken into custody on arrest warrants. In addition, 18 traffic citations were issued, along with several verbal and written warnings.
