Palmerton buying two police vehicles

Palmerton plans to use American Rescue Funds to purchase two new vehicles for its police department.

Borough council on a unanimous measure Thursday agreed to order a pair of 2023 models.

Councilman Kris Hoffner said the total cost of the two vehicles is $92,846.

Hoffner said council plans to apply for grants, and use American Rescue Funds.

Borough Manager Donna McGarry said that council had previously approved purchases of a 2022 model.

“We found out early in September that this vehicle order was canceled by Ford Motor Co.,” McGarry said. “We then ordered two 2023 models, since 2022 are no longer available.”

In other police-related matters, council:

• Approved a Local Share Account grant application for police equipment.

• Approved a grant application for police equipment and retention bonuses.
