Palmerton Borough Council

Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:

• Agreed to use $150,000 in American Rescue Funds to repair water mains on Church Street and Alley M.

• Approved the use of American Rescue Plan funds for road projects on Avenue A and Avenue B, as well as a parking lot project on Delaware Avenue. Some of the funds will be used in alleys, with projects to be determined.

• Adopted an ordinance establishing fee limits for parking tickets, with $30 for most tickets; handicap parking would be $50 for the ticket, and $100 if not paid within 72 hours. Councilman Richard Nothstein was opposed.

• Approved Nanovic Law Offices as the borough’s assistant solicitor at the rate of $140 an hour.

• Agreed to readvertise for a streets coordinator.

• Readvertise for help of part-time leaf collection employees beginning in October at the starting rate of $15 an hour.

• Approved the police pension fund 2023 minimum municipal obligation in the amount of $227,426.

• Approved non-uniformed pension fund 2023 Minimum Municipal Obligation in the amount of $121,375.

• Thanked the borough’s municipal authority for investing money in a fixed-based leak detection program, which is efficient for detecting water leaks, that will cover about six blocks from Lehigh Avenue to Columbia Avenue.

• Announced that the borough will post information on the borough’s website for residents who need help with their utility bills.

• Approved a request for assistance with Palmerton High School cross-country meet at 3 p.m. Sept. 27.

• Approved a request for S.S. Palmer Elementary to hold a Bomber Fun Run on Oct. 14 and Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• A request from Colossal Radio for parking spaces for the Operation Give a Gobbler event to be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 16.

• A request from the Palmerton Chamber of Commerce to hold its Halloween Parade at 4 p.m. Oct. 16, with a rain date of 7 p.m. Oct. 17.

• A request from Lehighton Borough for fire police for its Halloween Parade on Oct. 15. The rain date is Oct. 16.
