Pl. Vly. cheerleaders host first color run

The Pleasant Valley cheerleaders are hosting their first color run on Sunday.

It is a chance for “the community to come together and have fun at a big event. It’ll be something new and exciting for me,” said senior Reese Ruggiero, who is a varsity tri-captain along with seniors Bella Salazar and Kristen Lawrence.

The event begins at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley Middle School.

They are still looking for participants to run, and the cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 4 to 10.

The rain date is Oct. 2.

“We are raising money to offset the costs of sending the varsity cheerleaders to the Nationals competition in Florida in February. Our goal for this run is $10,000,” said Dawn Hawn, the cheerleading program’s head coach.

They have several ongoing fundraisers, including selling spirit wear shirts, to help pay the $17,000 it costs to send each athlete, she said.

As the runners are doing the 1.95-mile course around the school’s campus, they will get sprayed with colored powder.

There will be yard signs along the route with the sponsors’ names. Sponsors include Rita’s Italian Ice in Brodheadsville, Brodheadsville Chevrolet, NEPA Federal Credit Union, Stanley Green Excavating and Lawn Scaping, Stephani Insurance Service, Edgewater Bulk Transport, Lee Nails, Salazar Financial Planning, Texas Roadhouse and Nick’s Lakehouse.

The first-place award is a dinner for two at Texas Roadhouse; second place is free appetizers at Texas Roadhouse; and third place is free appetizers at Texas Roadhouse.

In addition to the color run, there will be vendors, concession stand and music at Sunday’s event.
