Fall is starting to give a preview

The first full day of autumn brought with it a crisp reminder that leaf-peeping season is around the corner.

In Coaldale the lows Friday morning were in the mid-40s and should be around that again this morning, meaning leaves will start losing their green pigment (chlorophyll) and the colorful ones will start to emerge.

And there’s no better place to catch the fall colors than the Poconos, with Jim Thorpe and Carbon County being a destination for many who love the change in seasons.

For the second year in a row, the Poconos has been voted as the United States’ third best destination for fall foliage in USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The Poconos also finished third last year.

One of the best ways to see the vibrant colors is the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.

The train runs through Lehigh Gorge State Park, leaving and ending in Jim Thorpe.

The ride is 70 minutes except in October when it’s 45 minutes because of its popularity.
