Calvary Lewistown

All services will now be held at the church, 824 Catawissa Rd., Tamaqua. Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and evening service at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. is Prayer meeting.

Upcoming events: Oct. 16; Annual Sunday school Rally day at 10:25 a.m. Gospel Bluegrass concert by The Good News Travelin’ Band at 6:30 p.m.

Diaper depot

Tamaqua Diaper Ministry Diaper Depot, a free-diaper ministry of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tamaqua, began in October of 2018. Since that time, it has received 1,846 requests for free diapers. It has provided diapers for Tamaqua area children 2,149 times.

Now the ministry is ready to give out its 100,000th diaper at its September distribution.

The ministry provides free diapers for families living in the Tamaqua Area School District. Children ages newborn to age 4 are served. Diapers are usually given out the third Saturday of the month but this month distribution is Sept. 24.

Volunteers package requests the evening before distribution. Diaper Depot is a community pantry of The Greater Philadelphia Diaper Bank.

Request for diapers can be made at the Zion website at www.ziontamaqua.com. All requests are verified by email. New clients must provide a birth certificate for children served and some proof of residence. Guidelines for the ministry are also on the church website.

Adult Day Care

Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care is holding a Kauffman’s Chicken BBQ Fundraiser on Oct. 5 from 4-6 p.m. It is take out only.

Meal includes half a chicken, baked potato, coleslaw and roll. There will also be a bake sale and 50/50 drawing.

Anniversary Celebration

First United Methodist Church, 124 W. Broad St. is celebrating the church’s 190th anniversary at the 11:15 a.m. worship service on Sept. 25. Everyone is invited to attend.
