Lansford Borough Council

Lansford Borough Council acted on the following items this week:

• Voted to table the awarding of the bid for a handicapped ramp project for Ashton Park. The grant they received was for $50,000. The actual bids came in at $96,000. The engineer recommended tabling the bids until further funding can be acquired.

• Borough Council voted to purchase two pallets of sealant number 518 from Crafco in the amount of $3,150.

“We need this to seal all the streets that were paved this year,” Councilman William Chuma said. “The sealant that we got last year was the number 221 sealant. With the first snowfall of the season, we picked a lot of it up with the snow plows.”

• Voted to have the two basketball courts, West End and East End, repaved for a cost of $12,850. In the spring they plan to repaint the posts and the backboards, and the courts will need to have lines painted on them.

They are looking at possibly repaving the tennis court and the skate park next year.

• Trick or Treat Night will be held on Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Homes wishing to participate should turn on their porch lights. Trick or treat participant should only go to homes with the porch lights on, and parents are encouraged to accompany their children.

• Will advertise for bids to do some remodeling work in the Borough Office. The work will include adding two walls and a door and windows to provide more security in the office.

• A separate project to remodel a kitchen in the police department was tabled pending more bids and quotes.

• Will apply for a grant under the Community Conservation Partnership Program in the amount of $400,000 for renovations at Kennedy Park. Work for the park will include sidewalks, lights, and a clock.

• Will file a LSA Monroe Grant for phase one of renovations at the train station in the amount of $97,000.

• Voted to advertise for the position of the Code Enforcement Officer, full or part time positions available. Pay is negotiable, depending on experience. Enforcement of property maintenance codes, quality of life ordinances, and other code ordinances. Applications are available at the borough office at 1 West Ridge St.
