Pleasant Vly. gains student enrollment
Pleasant Valley School District is returning to pre-pandemic enrollment numbers.
According to the enrollment report to the school board this week, there are 4,138 students registered for classes in the district’s school buildings. Last year, there were 3,914 students in the bricks and mortar buildings.
Before the pandemic, there were 4,280 students in the schools, according to the enrollment report from Sept. 3, 2019. That’s a difference of 142 students between pre-pandemic and post-pandemic.
“We’re so excited to welcome students back,” said Superintendent James Konrad. “We know they’re going to get a great education at Pleasant Valley. We have great staff who give students every opportunity to succeed.”
The number of students in Bear Academy, previously known as the Pleasant Valley Cyber Academy, was 162 students last year and 128 students now. It was 122 students in 2019.
Also dropping is the number of students in outside cyber and charter schools. There are 343 students in charter schools now, which is down from 463 students in the November 2021 enrollment report. The enrollment reports from September and October 2021 combined the charter schools separately with students in private schools.
Religious affiliated private schools do not receive any state money via the school district. Charter schools do. School districts are required to give charter schools money received from the state for every student under the jurisdiction of the school district that is in a charter school.
Before the pandemic, there were 171 students in charter schools 2019.
