Weisstock provides two days of rides, contests, food

The Weissport park was the place to be Friday and Saturday for the second annual Weisstock.

There were rides and games for the children, food stands, vendors, and entertainment in the band shell. There were also contests, including a cake walk, karaoke, pizza eating and limbo.

“This year, we teamed up with the Weissport Event Committee to help us grow,” said Nichole Baker, director of the St Peter’s Community Resource Center. “Part of the proceeds go to the events committee to use for the various events they hold for the residents, like the Easter Parade, the Christmas Parade, and other things like that. We use our funds to purchase more necessities for the Resource Center, more of the things people need.”

Baker said the center has been very busy.

“Since the pandemic, we have had an influx of individuals who needed a little bit of a boost,” she said. “These are tough times for everybody.”

The Bare Necessities Pantry is the fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those in need from Lehighton, Jim Thorpe and Palmerton. It offers items that are not usually covered by food stamp programs, such as shampoo, soap, body wash and laundry detergent
