Towamensing supervisors take action on several items

The Towamensing Township supervisors heard from residents and discussed several issues at its Sept. 1 meeting.

During public comments, Allison Chase noted that the Towamensing soccer league has more than 130 players. Four handicap parking spots were added at the field, making a total of seven spots.

Four signs were also put up at each of the four gates stating “no smoking” and “no dogs.”

A presentation and discussion about the Bryon Hahn Minor subdivision driveway waiver was tabled to allow time to research the settlement agreement and ask for a 6 month extension.

A motion passed regarding review of the 2023 Minimum Municipal Obligation for pension plans. Bid packages for diesel/heating oil were tabled so that the engineer can verify the criteria as to how it is bid.

Also, there was only one bid for road materials so this was also tabled.

The township will hold a recycling event for residents on Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon. The balers for sale will stay on “municibid” with a motion to reduce the reserve to $350.

The request for one or two fire police to assist with the dedication of the Emergency Operation and Training Center on Sept. 11 was approved.

Palmerton’s request for assistance from the fire police for the Valor charity motorcycle ride on Oct. 8 and Bo Tkach Turkey Trot on Nov. 25 was approved.

The next meeting of the board of supervisors is Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
