Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 3

The Lehighton boys’ soccer team helped head coach Dave Yob reach the century mark with a big win over the weekend.

Elsewhere, the Jim Thorpe girls soccer and Pleasant Valley volleyball teams remained undefeated, while the Palmerton and Jim Thorpe boys soccer, and Lehighton girls soccer team, also posted victories.

BOYS SOCCER

Catasauqua-Lehighton

Lehighton handed head coach Dave Yob his 100th-career victory with a 5-0 non-league victory over visiting Catasauqua.

AJ Light and Mason Nailer both finished with two goals for the Indians. Jacob Anthony added a goal and two assists, while Matt Sofranko and Gabe Reed both were credited with assists.

Bryce Miller grabbed 10 saves to secure the shutout.

Lehightin remains undefeated at 5-0 on the season, while Catty slides to 1-2 overall.

Weatherly-Palmerton

Trevor Anthony and Riley Fallon each had two goals and a pair of assists to lead Palmerton to a dominating 8-0 non-league victory over visiting Weatherly.

Trey Sterling grabbed eight first-half saves for the Bombers, and also registered a goal and two assists. Benjamin Andrews also posted four saves to help preserve the shutout.

Garrett Warner, Colton Ruzicka and AJ Borger each had a goal and an assist in the win, while Noah Sell contributed an assist, which helped Palmerton (1-3 overall) earn its first win of the season.

Weatherly slips to 0-3 on the season.

Jim Thorpe-Sch. Haven

Dawson Meckes and Ivan Turczeniuk each scored four goals to lead Jim Thorpe to a commanding 12-2 victory over host Schuylkill Haven.

Noah Geiser and Jayden Chambers both contributed with a goal and two assists, while both Cael Heaney and Rowan Melber also found the back of the net. Meckes also had three assists, while Jacob Geiser chipped in with four assists and Caleb Cruz dished out an assist for Thorpe, which improves to 2-2 overall on the season.

Heaney (one save) and Michael Mack (five saves) split time in net for the Olympians, with Mack making five saves and Heaney stopping one shot.

Sean Coyle and Chase Fisher both scored for the Hurricanes.

Marian at Northampton Cross Country

Invitational

Lehighton, Marian, Northern Lehigh, Palmerton and Tamaqua all took part in the Northampton Cross Country Invitational at Bicentennial Park over the weekend.

Owen Hibell led the way for the Bombers, recording an area best with a 19th-place finish in a field of 263 boys.

Emma Rex was the top finisher among area girls, placing 52nd in a field of 218.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Sch. Haven

Eight different Jim Thorpe players scored for the Olympians, as they pulled away for a 10-0 win over Schuylkill Haven.

Mackenzie Yuhas led the Olympians with two goals and three assists, while Lauren LeKites added two goals and an assist.

Nicole Carroll, Kaila O’Connor and Alexis Moratto all chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Gabby Cinicola, Aurora VanAuken and Sarah Hartman also found the back of the net.

Olivia Rosenberger posted two saves for the shutout to help Jim Thorpe remain unbeaten at 3-0 overall, while Schuylkill Haven falls to 0-3 on the season.

ES South-Lehighton

Four first-half goals helped Lehighton secure a 5-0 non-league victory over East Stroudsburg South.

Karissa Moyer, Ryleigh Walker, Charli McHugh and Sadie Monk all scored in the first half for the Indians, while McHugh added another goal in the second half.

Leah Uyvari recorded two assists for Lehighton (2-1 overall), while Walker, McHugh and Cheyann Marx also added an assist.

Ciara Behrel finished with four saves to secure the shutout.

VOLLEYBALL

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley came out on top with a 17-25, 25-6, 25-18, 9-25, 15-10 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over visiting Pocono Mountain East.

Hannah Akob sparked the Bears with 10 digs, six aces, six kills and two blocks, while Brianna Bruckman finished with 25 assists and five digs.

Jackie James (eight kills, five digs), Sarah Ballek (eight kills, five blocks), Lexi Womack (seven kills, five digs) and Amiyah Poliseno (seven digs, four aces) all helped Pleasant Valley remain undefeated at 4-0 overall on the season.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lehighton-Nazareth

Undefeated Nazareth rolled past Lehighton for a 10-0 non-league win.

Zoey Emrick and Abby Wortmann both had three goals for the Blue Eagles. Emrick had two assists, while Wortmann was credited with one. Mackenzie Mann stopped 11 shots in the win.

Grayson Frey finished with 22 saves for the Indians.

Lehighton slips to 1-3 on the season, while Nazareth moves to 3-0 overall.
