Local roundup: Results from Aug. 31

Northwestern picked up wins in field hockey, golf and volleyball action on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the Palmerton field hockey and Lehighton boys soccer teams stayed unbeaten with impressive performances, while Tamaqua registered wins in volleyball and girls tennis action.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Salisbury

Northwestern got out to a hot start, scoring the first five goals of the game to defeat Salisbury 7-1 in a Colonial League contest.

Carsyn Van Norman led the way with two goals. Claire Costa got the run started for the Tigers (3-0), while Olivia Costa, Cara Thomas, Josey Wehr and Dani Lister added goals.

Costa and Lister also had assists, as did Brinley Rex and Hannah Gober.

Northwestern out shot the Falcons by a 19-12 margin.

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Palmerton put together a dominating effort over Pen Argyl to come away with an 11-1 victory in Colonial League action.

The Bombers’ constant pressure on the offensive end was the difference as they put 31 shots on goal.

Sydney Frantz scored three goals, while also distributing three assists for Palmerton (3-0). Kelsey Balliet, Celeste Hoffman and Kira Hauser each added two goals in the win.

The Bombers also received assists from Hoffman and Skylar Kohler.

Pleasant Vy.-Northampton

In a game that was started on Tuesday and halted due to weather, Northampton finished off a 4-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference shutout of Pleasant Valley.

Brooke Saul had a pair of goals for the Konkrete Kids (2-1), while Mya Keppel and Kendall Lasiello both had one.

The loss dropped the Bears to 0-2.

VOLLEYBALL

Panther Vy.-Northwestern

Northwestern swept Panther Valley in a non-league match, 25-21, 25-13, 26-24.

Senior Jenna Breininger paced the Tigers (1-1) with 13 kills, while also adding eight digs. Senior Brooke Dwane collected 38 digs and dished out 10 assists, while sophomores Shannon Green finished with 23 assists and Bailey Murray added nine kills.

Natalie Vermillion had nine kills and 11 digs for the Panthers (1-1). Molly Newton added 10 digs, while Caroline Berslin contributed nine digs.

Tamaqua-MMI Prep

Tamaqua put together a strong effort against MMI Prep, coming away with a three-game non-league sweep, 25-19, 25-15, 25-7.

Rylie Lusch was a force at the net with four blocks, and Eileen Lusch was impressive from the service line, tallying nine aces for the Blue Raiders (1-2).

Sarah Coccio helped out with four aces.

GOLF

Northwestern-Bangor

Northwestern defeated Bangor in a Colonial League battle, 482-504.

Addison Remaley led the Tigers with an 86, while Stone Sosnovik contributed a 92.

Medalist honors went to Bangor’s White, who finished with an 84.

The win lifted Northwestern’s record to 4-5.

Tamaqua-Notre Dame ES

It was a successful day on the court for Tamaqua as it downed Notre Dame East Stroudsburg, 4-1, for its first win of the year.

The Blue Raiders (1-3) swept singles play, as Emily Antonio, Megan Oswald and Brooke Williams all posted wins. Antonio and Williams won in straight sets, while Oswald battled from an opening 6-3 loss to win her match.

Jenelle Fernandez and August Stinson also added a win at No. 2 doubles.

Ashlynn Miller posted a singles victory for the Olympians (2-2), while the team of Keira Rease and Ada Finsel picked up a win in doubles action.

Emmaus rolled past Pleasant Valley in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match, 7-0.

The Hornets swept singles play in straight sets, dropping only five games.

With the loss, the Bears fell to 2-2.

GIRLS SOCCER

Northampton-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley and Northampton played to a 2-2 tie in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match.

The Bears (1-1-1) opened the scoring with a cross from Aryn Stivala, and finish from Madison Fava.

Northampton (1-0-1) scored with a few minutes left in the first half, and then within five minutes of the second half on goals by Brielle Skoze and Danka Cuchran.

Pleasant Valley settled down and finally finished in the 77th minute, when Stivala took a 50-yard punt from keeper Mya Manigo and beat the defense to put it away.

Manigo finished with 25 saves, including four in each overtime.

BOYS SOCCER

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

Lehighton scored early and often in its matchup with North Schuylkill, coming away with a decisive 7-1 Schuylkill League Division 1 win.

The Indians (3-0) got their offense going in the first half, scoring three goals to lead 3-0. Mason Marchessault accounted for two, with AJ Light adding the other.

Lehighton kept the offensive pressure on in the second half, as Mason Nailor, Matt Sofranko and Cove Schaeffer all added goals and Marchessault added a third to complete his hat trick.

Northampton-Pleasant Vy.

A pair of second-half goals lifted Northampton to a 2-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Jevin Fritz and Jackson Vajda both registered goals for the Konkrete Kids (2-0), while Delali Tsome and Julian Briody were credited with assists. Xander McDonald and Ethan Schrempf made three saves apiece in the win.

Mike Myers stopped 11 shots for the Bears (1-1-1).
