Schuylkill group honored for conservation work

Representatives of the Friends of Tuscarora and Locust Lake State Parks attended the recent Schuylkill Conservation District’s 2022 Awards Ceremony to accept the Conservation Organization of the Year Award.

The event was at Sweet Arrow Lake and honored those for their efforts in protecting and restoring the county’s natural resources.

“We are incredibly honored and humbled to be selected as the Schuylkill County Conservation Organization of the Year by the Schuylkill Conservation District,” said Jennifer Holman, who accepted the award on behalf of the Friends group.

She said that in the 16 months since its inception, the group has developed a small but mighty effort to preserve, protect and respect the parks.

“We are proud of the partnerships we’ve built, the collaboration with DCNR, local businesses, and our always present group of volunteers and board members. Our group exists as a group of stewards, maintaining the educational, cultural, and recreational value of our great parks,” Holman said. “As a proud member of the PA Parks and Forests Foundation, we have much left to do to support, maintain, and enhance our state parks. We welcome everyone to join us in our efforts!”
