Local Roundup: Results from Aug. 29

Jim Thorpe teams enjoyed quite a bit success on Monday, with the girls tennis, boys soccer and volleyball clubs all recording wins.

Northwestern and Palmerton also posted a pair of wins.

The Tigers scored victories in girls soccer and golf, while the Bombers picked up field hockey and golf wins.

Elsewhere, Lehighton posted a win in boys soccer, while the Marian volleyball and Weatherly golf teams also posted victories.

GIRLS TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Jim Thorpe swept all three singles matches and took the second doubles contest in a 4-1 win over Tamaqua.

Tara McLean, Hailey Trine and Ashlynn Miller all scored singles victories for the Olympians. Keira Reese and Ada Finsei posted a victory at No. 2 doubles.

The Blue Raiders grabbed the first doubles win, with Helen Florea and Gabby Erho posting a victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Ivan Turczeniuk’s hat-trick highlighted Jim Thorpe’s 8-1 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Tamaqua.

Dawson Meckes and Noah Geiser each added two goals and a pair of assists for the Olympians (1-1 overall, 1-0 SL). Travis Belser also scored a goal, while Caleb Cruz and Jacob Geiser both chipped in with assists.

Blake Barbario and Michael Mack combined for six saves in the win.

Jesse Gormley scored the Blue Raiders’ lone goal off a second-half penalty kick, while Jonathan Ulicny finished with 13 saves.

Tamaqua falls to 0-1 overall (0-1 SL) on the season.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Three first-half goals lifted Lehighton to a 4-2 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Mason Marchessault paced the Indians’ first-half outburst with a goal and two assists, while Matt Sofranko chipped in with two assists. AJ Light, Mason Nailor and Jacob Anthony all added goals in the win.

Bryce Miller grabbed six saves for Lehighton, while Aiden Koetyal ended up with 13 saves for the Tide.

Lehighton moves to 2-0 overall (1-0 SL), while Pottsville slips to 1-2 (0-1) on the season.

Nativity-Weatherly

Nativity rolled to a 11-1 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Ron Hoffman posted the Wreckers’ lone goal off an assist from Alex Rosenlund. Wyatt Higgins finished with nine saves in the loss.

Weatherly falls to 0-2 overall (0-1 SL), while Nativity jumps to 1-0 (1-0 SL).

FIELD HOCKEY

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Kira Hauser’s four goals helped Palmerton cruise to an 8-1 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

Sydney Frantz followed with a goal and three assists for the Bombers (2-0 overall; 1-0 CL), while Celeste Hoffman added two assists.

Mikayla Pengelly contributed a goal and an assist, while Clair Frank (goal), Skylar Kohler (goal) and Mackenzie Long (assist) all played key roles in the win.

GIRLS SOCCER

Blue Mtn.-Northwestern

Cammy Fitch provided all the offense Northwestern needed with a pair of goals to secure a 2-1 non-league victory over visiting Blue Mountain.

Sammy Bardonner and Brook Balliet were both credited with assists, while Naomi Glassberg posted four saves in the win.

Northwestern improves to 2-1 overall, while Blue Mountain slips to 0-1 on the season.

Pleasant Valley-Easton

Aminah Baruwa’s massive performance highlighted Easton’s 9-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Baruwa scored eight goals for the Red Rovers, who finished with 22 shots on goal. Kendahl Popp also scored in the victory.

Mya Manigo made 12 saves for the Bears in the first half, while Sadie Rizzo stopped five shots after the intermission. PV finished with 13 shots on goal.

GOLF

Marian-Weatherly

Weatherly got the best of Marian for a 369-491 Schuylkill League win at Mountain Laurel.

Owen Broskoskie posted medalist honors for the Wreckers (4-2) with a score of 84.

The Colts (1-6) were led by Sam Farrone, who finished with a score of 102.

Lourdes swept a Schuylkill League match against Lehighton and Jim Thorpe.

Lourdes posted a 348-412 victory over Jim Thorpe, and scored a 348-386 win over Lehighton.

Damian Milewski finished with an 84 to lead Lourdes (4-1).

The Indians’ (1-7, 0-5) Trey Spring earned medalist honors with a 76.

Brydon Gray led the Olympians (0-5) with a 96.

Jim Thorpe-Williams Valley

Jim Thorpe cruised to a 25-11, 25-12, 25-11 victory over Williams Valley.

Maggy Hallihan recorded 30 assists and three kills, while Leah Figura put up 18 service points to go along with seven aces and two digs for the Olympians.

Brianna Snisky had five kills and five blocks for Jim Thorpe. Brooke Mitzen added eight kills and four aces, while Kelsey Patton put up three kills and three blocks.

Priscilla Patton and Maura Malaska also contributed to the win, with Patton having five kills and Malaska adding two aces and seven service points.

Hazleton-Marian

Marian came away with a 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-9 non-league win over Hazleton.

Megan Paisley paced the Fillies’ attack with 14 digs, eight kills and four aces, while Julia Meiss chipped in with 19 assists and four aces.

Megan Reaman (15 digs), Fatikha Tikhtova (six kills, five blocks) and Jenna Goff (six aces, four kills) all helped Marian improve to 1-1 this season.
