Lehighton Area School District finalizes security contracts

Lehighton Area School District’s board of directors finalized its outside security contracts for the 2022-23 school year last Monday with the approval of an agreement with County Security Police.

The one-year pact calls for the company, based in New Milford, to provide security services at any district property when needed at a cost of $24.50 per hour for an unarmed guard and $30 per hour for an armed guard.

County Security Police, LASD officials said, will supplement the district’s own two school police officers and KRE Security LLC, a firm approved last month as another outside vendor.

“At the middle school, we would use (County Security) maybe once or twice a year if our own officers were at the high school or elementary for an event,” Lehighton Area Middle School Principal Steve Ebbert told the board Monday. “Usually it’s right before the winter break if we have a dance or concert or something like that, or during the spring concert season.”

Lehighton also has a one-year contract in place with KRE Security calling for at least two officers to work sporting events as directed by the district. Sports covered in the contract include football, basketball, wrestling and any others deemed necessary during the year.

The cost for a KRE guard ranges from $32.75 per hour for an unarmed guard to $39.75 per hour for an armed guard.
