A Schuylkill County man has been jailed and is facing multiple charges after police say he tried to hit officers with an all-terrain vehicle last month.
State police at Frackville said on July 27, troopers, along with St. Clair police and members of the county’s probation office, went to 351 Chestnut St., in New Castle Township.
Stephen Kubeika, 34, of St. Clair, was in a garage at the rear of the residence, police said. Kubeika had several active warrants from St. Clair police and the probation office, according to police.
Officers told Kubeika to leave the garage. Kubeika mounted an ATV inside the garage and started the engine.
Officers again gave commands for Kubeika to stop the ATV. Kubeika drove the ATV through metal garage doors in the direction of six officers, police said.
Kubeika struck one of the officers with the ATV and nearly struck several others before fleeing the area, police said. Troopers did not say if the officer required medical attention.
Kubeika was charged with six counts of aggravated assault, simple assault and flight to avoid apprehension, police said. An arrest warrant was issued.
On Aug. 9 the state fugitive task force, St. Clair police and the probation office took him into custody.
He was arraigned before a district judge, and sent to the county prison after failing to post $100,000 straight cash bail.
