Panther Valley board treasurer resigns

Panther Valley School Board has a new treasurer after its longtime board treasurer resigned.

During the board’s meeting this week, members voted to accept the resignation of William Mansberry as treasurer of the board.

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank Bill Mansberry for everything he’s done for our district,” Panther Valley School Superintendent Dave McAndrew said. “He has been with us for years, always helping us out. He’s just a great guy. We will definitely miss him.”

School Board President Daniel Matika said, “Even when Bill couldn’t physically be with us here in the room, he was always on the phone; I don’t think he ever missed a meeting. Even on Zoom, he was on every time. He will be greatly missed.”

The school board opened nominations for a new treasurer. New member Pat Leonzi was the only nomination and was approved.

School reports

• McAndrew reported that the kindergarten teachers and staff drove around and delivered signs to the homes of kindergarten students.

“It’s such a neat time and we get to see these kids, to show them that we care, and bring down some of that anxiety. So, as you drive through the community, you’ll see signs that say ‘Kindergarten, Panther Valley’. It’s a nice touch,” he said. “Thank you to the PTO and all the staff.”

• Business Manager Jesse Walck thanked Scott Fisher and the rest of the maintenance crew improving lighting in 15 of the high school classrooms.

“In those rooms,” Walck said, “they were able to go from 30 to 35 of the old lighting fixtures down to nine flat panel LED lights. It looks better, the kids will be able to see better, and it’s going to save us some money; and, we were able to do the work in-house.”

• Walck also told the school board that the reimbursement for the ENSRA funds that were spent last year will be coming in next week, a payment of $6.7 million.
